Coffee Storage

Keep it tight, air-tight!

Who doesn't love a fresh cup of coffee in the morning and let's emphasise the word fresh! Coffee doesn't really go bad but you'll notice the difference over time as it starts to lose flavor and freshness, if you compare it with a newer coffee.

The best coffee only lasts two to three weeks, and even though you’ll likely have no problem using up your stock before then, it’s still essential to store those precious beans correctly!

To ensure you keep the perfection in your cup this is what you need to think about.

Storage

We aren't talking a Tupperware box in the fridge, no ma'am, we want a tight seal. Once you open that bag, it's a ticking bomb and the freshness starts to disappear...so brew and drink as fast as you can, or slow the process down with some serious airtight storage.

Choose from either our Espresso Gear 'Vac Cans' which are made of plastic making them lightweight and with their genuine branding, look great on the shelf too, for whatever you want to store.

Or the Fellow Atmos Coffee Storage Jars  – their innovative vacuum technology keeps oxygen away from your beans, preventing oxidation.

Check the dates

As with all fresh produce, it's always wise to check the best before date. Use your common sense just like you would with food, if it doesn't smell or taste great, it is probably past its best. Try and slurp it up and enjoy it as its best, which will be within the date on the pack.

Quality not Quantity

Yet another life lesson, imagine it we all consumed better things less often, wouldn't the world be a happier place? Depending on how many cups you are drinking, don't over buy. Purchase more regularly instead to ensure freshness and who knows, you might go wild and try another type!

Cool & Dry

Yes, it should be stored cool but maybe not in the fridge, unless you want your coffee to absorb the additional foodie aromas in there. Could be a new trend, curry flavoured coffee?

Coffee stays fresh in places that aren’t too warm or too cold, so instead of storing your coffee in the fridge or freezer, keep it inside a cool, dry cupboard or on shelving away from direct sunlight.

Beans

Freshest coffee comes from whole beans, so for the best quality grind your coffee when you need it and preferably don't even put it in the grinder hopper until you need it. Keep it canned!

You can buy high-quality beans right here, they're from Le Piantagioni del Caffè.

Investing in a grinder will allow you to step up your home-brewing process massively and bring better quality coffee right to your home. Whether it's an electric or hand grinder, you're coffee game just improved!

We hope you've learnt a little about coffee freshness and have a better idea about the importance of keeping those beans safe from oxygen!

For the love of coffee beans; they've travelled a long way to make it to you, so take good care of them!
